How to offer your hotel guests a “Twitter Experience”

How to offer your hotel guests a “Twitter Experience”

Can social networks become the main travel companion for hotel guests?
Yes, this may become a reality.

The editor of the magazine Hotels, Jeff Weinstein, has informed us that Meliá Hotels International has developed a network for customers at their hotel in Mallorca to interact with each other.

Called #SocialWave, the Twitter based social network is only available to guests registered at their Sol Wave House hotel. The seaside resort is popular among the younger crowd thanks to live concerts, pool parties, surf machines and other amenities. Through this social network they encourage their hotel guests to share their experiences with each other as well as receive special offers of drinks and food. Weinstein says:

“Customers can chat with each other, flirt, compete in contests, share photos, etc.,” and adds that “Every corner of the hotel is designed to start up a new conversation.”

How does Sol Wave House limit access to #SocialWave to registered guests? You can only access the network via the hotel’s Wi-Fi, and after having performed a network entry process.

The hotel, located on the beach in Magaluf, has 184 suites and junior suites, as well as areas for music concerts during the day. The magazine cites other interesting features the hotel offers:

– Two moderators monitor the discussions and respond to customer requests through this network
– Guests can book #TwitterPartySuites with special services such as drinks on arrival and a discount of 20% in all bars and restaurants in Wave House
– Every Friday guests can attend the hotel’s #TwitterPoolParty

Hotel management assures us that the network is “a new step in fulfilling through new technology the expectations of an increasingly experimental and social client profile.”

However, Sol Wave House is not the only one ; and in recent years there have been several hotels that have experimented with social networks. In early 2012, for example, the Wyndham Tryp hotel in New York launched the application LobbyFriend for guests who wish to be part of their social network.
